Among the Trees

October 17-18th, 2026

11:30 – 7pm

The forests of Eberswalde & a private residence

Join me for a whole weekend devoted to trees.

We’ll spend two long days in the forests around Eberswalde, getting to know some of the trees of this land through many different doorways: identification and ecology, medicine, story and folklore, song, touch, trance, sensory practice and direct communion.

At the heart of the weekend is the practice of communion: learning ways of entering into relationship with trees beyond simply knowing about them.

Trees ask for a different kind of attention. They live on timescales very different from our own, holding their places through season after season, creating habitat, medicine, food, shelter and whole living worlds around and within themselves.

And they have accompanied humans for an extraordinarily long time: materially, medicinally, imaginatively and spiritually.

What we’ll explore

Over the weekend we’ll work with a small number of trees through many different forms of attention and practice.

This may include:

  • – Practices for opening and refining subtle and energetic perception, developing intuition and discernment in relationship with trees
    – Tree folklore, myth, story and song
    – Tree identification and ecology, medicinal and practical uses
    – Sensory, embodied and touch-based perception
    – Making tree medicines where appropriate and sustainable
    – Solo & group time in the forest

Communion

By communion, I mean practices for entering into direct relationship with trees through the senses, the body, attention, stillness, touch, imagination, energetic perception and the subtler forms of knowing that become available when listen deeply.

These are practices that I will teach and that we will develop together over the weekend, so that you leave with ways of approaching trees that you can continue to explore and deepen on your own.

We’ll work with opening perception, noticing how different trees affect our bodies and senses, working with intuition, and developing greater discernment around what we are actually experiencing. The intention is not to force meaning or extract messages, but to become more available to encounter and more skilful at listening.

The practical learning belongs alongside this: identification, ecology, medicine, folklore and story give us other ways of knowing a tree, and the more we understand how a tree lives, what it offers, what it depends on and how humans have related to it over time, the more textured our relationship can become.

So we’ll move continually between matter, body and subtle perception: between identifying a tree and sensing into its presence, between learning its ecology and working with embodied perception, between sharing old stories and entering trance to meet the tree network more deeply.

Following what is there

I don’t want to prescribe the weekend too tightly in advance. We’ll be responsive to what is actually there in the woods for us to meet, to the movements and desires of the group, and to what the land draws us towards.

Every time I take a group into the woods, something happens that I couldn’t have planned for: a tree we weren’t expecting to work with draws us in, a story suddenly becomes relevant, the weather changes, or someone notices something the rest of us have walked past.

A huge part of the practice is learning to listen for what is actually there.

There will be structure, and plenty that I want to share with you, but there will also be space for the woods themselves to shape what happens, and time simply to be, slow down and listen.

Who this is for

You don’t need existing knowledge of botany, herbal medicine or spiritual plant work to come. You do need curiosity, a willingness to spend a significant amount of time outside, openness to learning and trying things, and an interest in meeting trees more deeply.

My hope is that you leave not simply knowing more about trees, but knowing a few trees differently: recognising them, knowing something of how they live, their medicine and their stories, and having spent enough time with them for relationship to begin taking shape.

You’ll also leave with a set of communion and perception practices that you can continue developing for yourself long after the weekend is over.

⧫ Why Local Plant Magic? ⧫

We live in a time when so much is accessible to us. There are many plants from far away lands that are well known for their consciousness shifting properties, and there can be a tendency to think that only these plants have deep magic, or only these plants can shift our consciousness in noticeable ways.

However… **Every plant is consciousness shifting** (or has the potential to be).

And the plants that grow in the same ground that we walk upon hold particular wisdom for us. Despite our ever more global perspective, we are creatures that are deeply tied to place, and wired for (and often we’re deeply yearning for) relationship, reciprocity and real connection with our environments and the natural intelligences within them.

⧫ About my approach — direct experience, cultivating intuition and discernment ⧫

A significant aspect of my approach to plant work is an emphasis on the importance of direct experiential work with  plants and other natural intelligences.

This means cultivating states of stillness, simplicity and communion and learning to listen deeply through your own being, through your body and your energy system.

This is is a way of reclaiming your own channel in relationship to the spirits that surround us. It profoundly enhances your ability to work with them and receive their guidance. It also supports you to strengthen your intuitive and discernment capacities which are applicable in every part of life.

I balance this with deep curiosity about and acknowledgement of the importance of the story and song of the plant world as well as an understanding of its medicinal properties and actions. My invitation is to dive into working with plants holistically and in intimacy.
